Redmi 13C 5G Review
Verdict
Credit for delivering 5G to the general public should go to Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C 5G. It is also a respectable choice for anyone who value performance and battery life. Having said that, you might want to lower your expectations, especially with regard to the OS and cameras.
Design and display
With its wide rear camera cutouts and flat edges, the Redmi 13C 5G looks a lot like the Redmi 12 5G. Thick bezels and a waterdrop-shaped notch on the front give it a distinct appearance, but these should be eliminated by 2024. Thankfully, the back has a lovely glass-like quality, and the plastic frame feels sturdy.
Camera
Xiaomi’s focus with the Redmi 13C 5G is still on performance and fast internet speeds, thus the camera system suffers. The absence of an ultra-wide camera on the back camera system is typical of smartphones in this price range. A 2MP depth sensor and a 50MP main camera are located on the back panel. There is a 5MP AI selfie camera on the front.
The Redmi 13C 5G prioritises high saturation by default, which results in the majority of images and videos having a warm, orange colour. In addition, most photographs have a significant degree of noise and are not sharp. I did discover a way to turn on night mode in strong light to make photos look crisper, but stability might be a problem. The camera’s performance significantly decreases at night as noise in the image increases and colours are significantly toned down. Whether in bright or low light, the selfie camera also has trouble distinguishing between different skin tones.
Performance and software
The MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ SoC powers the Redmi 13C 5G. The highest variant, which I am examining, has 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM (Rs 14,499), while the base variant has 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. Xiaomi is using USF 2.1 storage, which corresponds to the highest capacity storage type that the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ SoC can enable.
